How to read the result honestly
ROI calculators are easy to rig — just crank the assumptions. That’s why every assumption here is editable and defaults to the low end of what fleets report. Set fuel savings to 5% and overtime to 10% and, for most fleets of five or more vehicles, tracking still comes out well ahead of its cost.
The savings that surprise operators most aren’t in the calculator at all: knowing instantly where every vehicle is when a customer calls, recovering a stolen truck, proof-of-service when a claim comes in, and winter dispatching decisions made from a live map instead of a phone tree. Treat those as upside on top of the math.

They are set at the conservative end of commonly reported fleet-telematics outcomes: about 10% on fuel, 10% on maintenance, and 20% on overtime or unverified hours. Some fleets do better, some worse — the point of the calculator is that you can set each assumption yourself and still see whether tracking pays for itself.
Three places: less idling (measured from the engine, not guessed), fewer unnecessary kilometres from better dispatching and route awareness, and less speeding — fuel burn rises sharply above highway speeds. Idling alone is often enough to cover the cost of tracking.
